Free to good homes (lots of old gear)

I’m soon moving to a house with less storage space, so the following is now available, free to good homes:

Hardware:
2 x AWA VTE-6 terminals (Only one keyboard)
2 x AWA Micromax (8085 based, dual 8" drives)
8 x Time Office Computers 4000 series systems (Z80 based, ran a unix-lookalike called EON) (only one monitor, power supply and keyboard though)
1 X TRS-80 model 3
1 x Radio Shack portable computer (4P?)
1 x Time Office Computers Kookaburra (AKA Dulmont Magnum, the first Australian made laptop?) with a large box of spare parts.
2 x Teleray 10M terminals
2 x Colour CRT monitors
1 x Torch Triple-X computer (with keyboard and monitor, likely faulty, it once did a sad face and never worked again)
1 x Sharp XV100 projector (300 pixel resolution)
1 x Sharp DV380 projector (720 pixel resolution)
1 x Sharp 6384 63cm CRT TV, (good condition, definitely working, really heavy)
1 x BBC micro (poor condition)
Assorted 286, 386, 486 systems and later.
Most are condition unknown, not been turned on in 30-ish years.

Shareware Software:
PC Blue collection
PC SIG collection
(probably more, I’m still digging through piles of boxes)

Will separate, happy to deliver to Melbourne area, we’d have to negotiate interstate transport.

Howdy. Do you have an IBM ps/2 system unit in there? I’ve got the monitor and keyboard, but no unit! Also do you know what the 2 colour crt models are? Also interested in the BBC (I’ve got a semi complete model B and half a compact). I’m in Melbs, so can pick up. Very generous!

I’m super keen, especially the Aussie stuff! Also, I can send someone around, am currently overseas for a week.

Alan, This may sound odd, but what I would really like is a photo of one of the VTE6s with its keyboard out the front. I spend a few years fixing these things in Canberra and would like a snap one for my IT story. You have images of all the bits and pieces I trust, some of them sound super-rare
cheers, Brian

If anyone in Sydney can chip in for petrol, I’m happy to drive to Melbourne and pickup whatever. I estimate about $200 for the return trip. I’d also need to stay a night in Melbourne and happy for any spare room or back yard I can pitch a tent for the night.

Yep grab the VTE-6es and the Micromax - if you have someone in Melbourne

I would be most interested in the 2 x AWA VTE6 terminals. I worked for AWA as the Service Manager for 17 yrs on all their digital products and have been trying for 20 yrs to locate a unit to donate to a museum without success. The ACMS in Sydney has a VTE-6 without a keyboard, however they were sold with different emulations so you need the correct one. The one in ACMS Sydney requires a blue keyboard. I located a keyboard in Brisbane, but the seller was moving premises and couldn’t find it.

I would be willing to help fund the offer to pick them up in Melbourne and take any pictures required for the IT article in exchange for one of them.

Regards, Colin Thompson.

I am guessing these were setup to talk to the Micromaxes - I saw one many years ago being used with a Micromax, but have no idea what protocol they used to communicate with a Micromax?

I’m shorter on time, but would be happy to contribute, I’ll send a DM with my email details…

Hi Alan,

It’s been a week since you posted to the forum and there is some interest in collecting some of your gems.
I’ve offered to drive from Sydney to Melbourne to pick up load - none of it will come back to my place. My apartment is full and I don’t want more stuff but I like to help get the Australian gear to ACMS members who want it or even better drop it straight to the museum.
Can you please give us an update, ie is the gear still available and what is your timeline, before we get further into the transport logistics?
Cheers, Josh

Hi again all, my humblest apologies for not responding yet, house move was madness and what with clearing out the old house and setting up the new, I haven’t had a chance to post.

Next week I start on clearing the shed, which contains the computer gear.
(I hope it is OK to upload photos to the forum…)

Hi Brian,
I’ll try to get a photo like that in the next couple of days.
Alan.

Hello, not an actual IBM, just (what I think are) ps/2 compatibles.
CRT monitors are an Acer AC711, and a Mag Innovision (will try to grab the exact model number soon)

Hello, thanks for the offer.
Gear is still all available. Have been focusing on clearing out old books and stuff (and for a pack-rat like me that hasn’t been easy)

I have to have the shed empty by 15th Jan, anything that is wanted I can bring over to the new house where it can be collected for sure. I hope the remainder won’t have to go to e-waste (what a crime!), depends on how much will be left, and how much storage space in the new garage I can reasonably set up.
Alan.

Oh, and a correction, the Time Office Computers were actually the 6000 series. And I have found a couple of boxes of spare circuit boards for them if anybody is interested in resurrecting them.

Just checking - when you say “old books” is any of that Documentation for the AWA stuff?

Nothing about the equipment (so far), but I’ve found a book of Corona Express bulletins, a Microstar Flexitex editor manual, and a number of AWA Radiotronics magazines ranging from 1962 to 1967.

How are these?

And I found a Microbee. Forgot I had that.

Perfect! Thank yo, it’s just the exact way I remember them, including the coloured keyboards. Some were brown I’m sure. But yesterday, looked after hundreds of them throughout all the government departments here in Canberra
