We were donated a NeXT Turbo Color and MegaPixel color today at the acms thanks to the help of @_tx contacting a donor online.
The TC was inspected internally, no leaking caps on the board, the original Panasonic 3V battery is testing at 2.84v
The megapixel monitor is a Sony rebadge, but we could smell something not right and the monitor turned off.
Upon opening the monitor we found some signs of heat and leak damage from a group of capacitors. Reminiscent of a Mac Classic analogue board drenched in electrolytes and damaged.
We replaced all visibly damaged and leaking components but still were not getting a power LED again.
it was then passed to Michael, our resident expert who found a trace repair I had committed was wrong and then addressed a number of dry joints on the PSU, mainly around the Shotkey diodes and upright boards.
By the end of the evening Michael had identified an extra startup capacitor which was bad and a number of other Elna capacitors were bad on one of the boards perpendicular on the power supply.
We unfortunately found the hard disk in the unit, a seagate ST1480N 426mb drive was shorting the machine, it looks like the drive had been turned on whilst the drive was suffering stiction, killing the PCB. Re replaced the board from a RZ53 Dec drive (the same drive rebadged) but unfortunately one of the heads on the drive was already torn off.
Upon putting in a SD card with a next OS on it, we know the TC booted and is running sans display until Michael and myself finish the screen restoration
